There is an illness in society that is so subtle and invasive that few have discovered it. Yet, it bleeds into everything we hear and think. A constant noise that deafens even the sanest of gestures. It streams through our online news, it speaks through our TV, it hums through our car radios and even purrs through our iPods without even leaving the slightest sign of infection. What is this disease? Moral inversion.

Who’s doing it? Enemies of Israel for one. Just last week, Lebanon said it would hold Israel fully responsible for any attack on their flotilla. Most of us that can read between the lies know that Lebanon is engaging in a treacherous game that will likely end in a violent confrontation. In fact, Lebanon has no diplomatic ties or sea routes to Israel. There are reasons for this. You know, minor ones like terrorists Hezbollah, Iran (and its head antisemite, Ahmadinejad, who advocates and sponsors pushing Israel into the sea) and that little skirmish known as the Six Day War.

But more hiccups followed. The next day Egypt pulled a fast one and tried to blame Israel for Gaza. Those that follow Middle East politics know how ridiculous this is as Egypt has had a separation barrier with Gaza long before Israel and Egypt is still adding on to theirs. Egyptian President Mubarak purposely omitted the fact that both Egypt and Israel have shared interests of preventing Hamas from smuggling weapons in an effort to create a new Iranian-sponsored hub of operations. Instead, Mubarak sound bites were on opening the Cairo border in early June that allowed hundreds of thousands of Gazans to roam in and out the region. It’s hard to say what countries outside the Middle East believe this (after all, they might get imprisoned or worse if they don’t), but I know that citizens of democratic countries that understand Middle East politics are not drinking this Kool-Aid.

Then last week ended with the family of Gilad Shalit staging a heartbreaking protest in front of Israeli PM Netanyahu’s home. Like most concerned with Gilad’s speedy return, I have blogged and tweeted about him often. But the media did an about face by turning the Shalit’s family saga into a noose with Netanyahu’s name on. It doesn’t take a Mensa member to figure out that the kidnapper is Hamas NOT Netanyahu.

Using this irrational logic, why not let Hamas off and instead blame the antisemitic UN or the international community? The UN has failed miserably at schooling Gazans. In fact, they employ Hamas at UN run schools teaching kids hatred of Jews and Israel. And the PR campaign over “starving” Gazans has gotten so out of hand that the international community continually pressures Netanyahu to aid Gaza (which only tightens the headlock that Hamas has on Gaza). I haven’t heard many rail about the week long PA– sponsored blackout in Gaza. Or how many have protested over masked gunmen setting UN Gaza summer camp on fire? (Note the irony in the statement released by Hamas).

But this unfair shift in responsibility is playing into the hands of terrorists. Hamas claims now their terror organization will kidnap more Israeli officers if Netanyahu doesn’t free 1000 Hamas prisoners. Well, guess what. Odds are good that Hamas will kill a LOT MORE Israelis if 1000 of their prisoners (many with Israeli blood on their hands) walk. Amid the media circus, I only ran across one Op-Ed that got the story right. As much as the Shalit family is hurting, consider the anguish they will be in if the return of their son means the senseless murder of hundreds of Israelis. There is no happy ending in this scenario unless terrorist Hamas does a civilized u-turn and releases a 24 year old soldier that has no business being a four-year old bargaining chip.

Then stateside you have wackos like Louis Farrakhan who continue to scapegoat Jews. It’s interesting that amid his nasty tirades that even he can’t see the parallels between Jewish and African slavery. There’s a chance he’s colorblind too. I haven’t seen a US VP not to mention a POTUS that has a 50 percent Jewish background. Yet, we stand faced with a half-black POTUS with a socialist/ Muslim upbringing that is befriending every enemy of the state while doing in America. No other POTUS has stirred up WW politics in such a way that Israel has more openly vocal haters than ever before. Some even speculate that if we continue down this path we could be facing the end of times. Who is outraged about this? Those who missed Jon Voight’s letter to Obama, should take a note of this courageous actor/activist who is putting his career on the line to stand up for Israel and America.

Now, we can all fume as Obama meets with Saudi King Abdullah. It’s always comforting to know that the kingdom that ranks high on human rights abuses, gives psychics the death penalty for “sorcery” (which I blogged about  here), and gifted America with 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers, thinks it has the answer to Middle East peace. Long sigh. This along with our current WH administration leaves little to look forward to except an entirely new administration focused on not just America’s security but Israel’s too. Until then, expect more idiocy, more inversion and much more finger pointing as the media covers Arab-led crises yet forgets who the protagonist is.
