Not long ago, Hillary Clinton made people wince with the same amount of pain that a paper cut or deeply embedded splinter evoke. These days, her husband Bill is gaining a reputation as the latest verbal train wreck to crash into the State of Israel. What was Bill thinking? Why would he attack Israeli Jews that happen to be of Russian decent?
Guess what, Bill? My husband’s paternal grandfather came from Lithuania and spoke Russian. I can already hear him cursing your name in six languages: English, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew and Yiddish. That’s great hearing on my part since he passed away over a year ago. But unlike you, Leo risked his life many times over to build relationships with Japanese leaders to save Jews in China from the Holocaust. Leo was a real hero.
Unfortunately for you, most Americans, Israelis and Jews around the world will never forget your caustic words. Blaming Russian Israelis as the bottleneck in peace negotiations between the Palestinians is absurd. In fact, it’s not only weak it’s a lie. The facts speak for themselves. What concessions have Palestinians leaders made? Why did the Palestinians wait 10 months — the entire construction moratorium — to agree to direct talks? When will the Qassam rockets stop? When will Hamas terrorists stop murdering innocent Israelis? What about the Lebanese Army who knowingly murderded an Israeli IDF commander and others?
Somehow, the inability of the Palestinians to make ANY concessions, their constant stalling, their delegimization campaign (boycott, divest and sanction aka BDS campaign targeting Israeli economy) and their ongoing premeditated acts of war were MIA in your speech. While you springboarded your comments off a private conversation that you claimed you had with then-Israeli Cabinet Minister and former Soviet dissident Natan Sharansky, it doesn’t look like Sharansky backed you up. Sharansky released a statement to Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, that denied making those comments to you and added,
“I am particularly disappointed by the president’s casual use of inappropriate stereotypes about Israelis, dividing their views on peace based on ethnic origins. I must add that these are uncharacteristic comments from a man who has always been a sensitive and thoughtful listener and conversation partner.”
Hmm. Should we construe those ridiculous remarks of yours as some type of pro-bono attempt to back Israel into a corner again so your wife and US President Barak Obama could negotiate a peace deal? Whatever it was, I can tell you it didn’t fly. Nor did it float. This one had lead weights attached and will need more than an outgoing president and his botched administration, to recover it. You will have to do some fast thinking coupled with some solid footwork in order to change the discourse. Right now, anyone pro-Israel sees you as a racist. It’s fair to say that most have already lumped you in the same footnote as former US President Jimmy Carter. Who would have known that two former US presidents — a peanut farmer and guy famous for a blue dress purchased at The Gap— would both be racists?
Actually, it’s starting to sound like Hillary is cut from the same cloth too. The AP just reported that Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is assuring Lebanon that the US will continue to support its government and army despite fears in Congress that Lebanon could use US assistance against Israel. It’s time for slumbering people to wake up. Iranian President Ahmadinejad already pledged money along with others to help the Lebanese army. Why should the US? We could use the $100 million that the US put on hold to help stimulate our failed economy. Why give it to a nation that funds terrorism? There is a reason Ahmadinejad stepped up to pledge money and it’s the same reason he funds terrorism activities of Hezbollah in the north. I’d hate to think that the US is supporting Ahmadinejad’s acts of terrorism. Talk about being hypocrite.
Hillary is a loose cannon that needs obvious congressional (and voter intervention) but Bill might be able to redeem himself if he acts fast.
Bill, this calls for enlisting your well-known Palestinian-loving friend, Carter. First, stop slandering Jews and put your joint diplomacy efforts to good use: FREE GILAD SHALIT from Hamas. Heck, while you’re at it, save Gaza from Hamas too. Then and only then can you and Carter advert going down in history as two (three if you count Hillary) racists that aided radical Islam while endangering global democracy.
