Jews Don’t Control the Media

On November 1, 2010,

Clearly, Jews don’t even have a big say in the media or Israel would not receive such disparaging treatment. Nevertheless, Israel is a country that the world loves to talk about 24/7. Many times, the media profiles the country’s technological and medical breakthroughs but not nearly often enough. Instead, the Jewish State continues to get pummeled by negative cover stories (e.g. it wasn’t Israel’s recent AIDS breakthrough that made the cover of Time) while reporters turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to the elephant in the room. Jennifer Hanin suggests US journalists need a wake-up call when featuring Israel, and her recent blog discusses how the leftist media is acting irresponsibly by casting a negative light on the Jewish State.

There is a growing epidemic stateside. It has nothing to do with the meningitis outbreak in Northern Colorado or the cholera epidemic in in Haiti or even the vigilant strain of malaria ravaging dozens in the Venezuelan Amazon. This disease has everything to do with the fact that our media has become so leftist that reporters continually bypass the carcasses in the road and harp on a bystander’s passenger mirror instead. Today, the Washington Post ran a slanted story about how American Jews are becoming more liberal and disengaged from the religious laws that Israeli Jews enforce.

The author even interviewed a woman who corroborated that view. But for millions of American Jews and non-Jews, that sentiment is simply untrue. It’s exactly these kinds of one-sided fallacies that help frame public opinion against Israel.

It’s no surprise that American Thinker called out Time Magazine for taking a potshot at Israel just after the magazine claimed the Jewish State didn’t care about peace. Please!  suppose Iran’s terror proxies do? This line of thinking is nothing short of absurd. But Time went too far in their September 13 issue by blaming Israel if peace talks fail. Gee, why not review a sliver of history and blame the Palestinians instead since they’ve made a career out of saying no to peace? Now, that would be a novel (and true at the same time).

Why isn’t the the US press all over the fact that Netanyahu just offered a peace plan granting immediate statehood to the Palestinians with a 10-year transition period to work out the details? This doesn’t sound like an action from a state that doesn’t care about peace.  have a relatives and friends in Israel so  should know whether Israelis care about peace. The alternative is random murders from suicide bombings and quassam missiles.  don’t think that jives with any civilized person. The media has it wrong. The only people that don’t care about peace are the terror proxies that would be left jobless and the thug that funds their activities, Ahmadinejad. Why our government allowed that criminal to step foot on US soil is beyond me. The US has special barred off places for degenerates like that.

Why is our media in the dark when it comes to the real problem in the Middle East? What kind of terrorism acts do Islamic extremists have to engage in to wake up US journalists who are actively delegitimizing democratic Israel? Wouldn’t the Washington Post serve Americans better by covering the toner cartridge filled with explosives that flew on at least one passenger airliner? One wonders who is supporting our major media outlets that are focusing on such watered down, one-sided stories. For those too quick to point the finger at Israel at all times, learning there is a potential Saudi bomb-maker terrorist connection shouldn’t surprise you.

On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has a pulse on the real problem. He told his cabinet that stopping global terrorism is one of the issues that he will address at the General Assembly of The Jewish Federations of North America:

“This General Assembly will be held against the background of reports about the attempt to attack the Jewish community in Chicago, and the truth is that it does not matter if the target was a synagogue in Chicago or a railway station in Madrid, or London, or Mumbai, or Bali,” Netanyahu said. “We are facing a growing wave of terrorism by extremist Islam. It is growing in the scope and brazen gall of its attacks, in the weapons with which it is arming itself and in the sweeping objectives of the leaders of global terrorism.”
