Jews Don’t Control the Media
Clearly, Jews don’t even have a big say in the media or Israel would not receive such disparaging treatment. Nevertheless, Israel is a country that the world loves to talk about 24/7. Many times, the media profiles the country’s technological and medical breakthroughs but not nearly often enough. Instead, the Jewish State continues to get pummeled by negative cover stories (e.g. it wasn’t Israel’s recent AIDS breakthrough that made the cover of Time) while reporters turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to the elephant in the room. Jennifer Hanin suggests US journalists need a wake-up call when featuring Israel, and her recent blog discusses how the leftist media is acting irresponsibly by casting a negative light on the Jewish State.
There is a growÂing epiÂdemic stateÂside. It has nothÂing to do with the meningitis outÂbreak in NorthÂern ColÂorado or the cholera epiÂdemic in in Haiti or even the vigÂiÂlant strain of malaria ravÂaging dozens in the VenezueÂlan AmaÂzon. This disÂease has everyÂthing to do with the fact that our media has become so leftÂist that reporters conÂtinÂuÂally bypass the carÂcasses in the road and harp on a bystander’s pasÂsenÂger mirÂror instead. Today, the WashÂingÂton Post ran a slanted story about how AmerÂiÂcan Jews are becomÂing more libÂeral and disÂenÂgaged from the reliÂgious laws that Israeli Jews enforce.
The author even interÂviewed a woman who corÂrobÂoÂrated that view. But for milÂlions of AmerÂiÂcan Jews and non-Jews, that senÂtiÂment is simÂply untrue. It’s exactly these kinds of one-sided falÂlacÂies that help frame pubÂlic opinÂion against Israel.
It’s no surÂprise that AmerÂiÂcan Thinker called out Time MagÂaÂzine for takÂing a potÂshot at Israel just after the magÂaÂzine claimed the JewÂish State didn’t care about peace. Please! I supÂpose Iran’s terÂror proxÂies do? This line of thinkÂing is nothÂing short of absurd. But Time went too far in their SepÂtemÂber 13 issue by blamÂing Israel if peace talks fail. Gee, why not review a sliver of hisÂtory and blame the PalesÂtiniÂans instead since they’ve made a career out of sayÂing no to peace? Now, that would be a novel (and true at the same time).
Why isn’t the the US press all over the fact that Netanyahu just offered a peace plan grantÂing immeÂdiÂate stateÂhood to the PalesÂtiniÂans with a 10-year tranÂsiÂtion period to work out the details? This doesn’t sound like an action from a state that doesn’t care about peace. I have a relÂaÂtives and friends in Israel so I should know whether Israelis care about peace. The alterÂnaÂtive is ranÂdom murÂders from suiÂcide bombÂings and quasÂsam misÂsiles. I don’t think that jives with any civÂiÂlized perÂson. The media has it wrong. The only peoÂple that don’t care about peace are the terÂror proxÂies that would be left jobÂless and the thug that funds their activÂiÂties, AhmadineÂjad. Why our govÂernÂment allowed that crimÂiÂnal to step foot on US soil is beyond me. The US has speÂcial barred off places for degenÂerÂates like that.
Why is our media in the dark when it comes to the real probÂlem in the MidÂdle East? What kind of terÂrorÂism acts do Islamic extremÂists have to engage in to wake up US jourÂnalÂists who are actively deleÂgitÂimizÂing demoÂcÂraÂtic Israel? Wouldn’t the WashÂingÂton Post serve AmerÂiÂcans betÂter by covÂerÂing the toner carÂtridge filled with exploÂsives that flew on at least one pasÂsenÂger airÂliner? One wonÂders who is supÂportÂing our major media outÂlets that are focusÂing on such watered down, one-sided stoÂries. For those too quick to point the finÂger at Israel at all times, learnÂing there is a potenÂtial Saudi bomb-maker terÂrorÂist conÂnecÂtion shouldn’t surÂprise you.
On the other hand, Israeli Prime MinÂisÂter BenÂjamin Netanyahu has a pulse on the real probÂlem. He told his cabÂiÂnet that stopÂping global terÂrorÂism is one of the issues that he will address at the GenÂeral AssemÂbly of The JewÂish FedÂerÂaÂtions of North America:
“This GenÂeral AssemÂbly will be held against the backÂground of reports about the attempt to attack the JewÂish comÂmuÂnity in Chicago, and the truth is that it does not matÂter if the tarÂget was a synÂaÂgogue in Chicago or a railÂway staÂtion in Madrid, or LonÂdon, or MumÂbai, or Bali,†Netanyahu said. “We are facÂing a growÂing wave of terÂrorÂism by extremÂist Islam. It is growÂing in the scope and brazen gall of its attacks, in the weapons with which it is armÂing itself and in the sweepÂing objecÂtives of the leadÂers of global terrorism.â€
